Two snaps in the autumn morning

Last night we had a clear and starry night above Skelleftehamn. You could even see polar light, a large bow in the northern sky, but it was quite pale and quickly faded away.

Temperature dropped down to -5 °C, the coldest night since springtime. I woke up half past six – just a few minutes too late to catch the sunrise, but I went outdoors anyway. It was still chilly this morning and sky was clear.

To my big surprise there was no ice at all on even the tiniest water puddles. I guess the ground is still too warm to let the water freeze over night. However, when I’m outside I want to take pictures. Two of the todays snapshots:

Photographers comment: Contrasts are quite extreme on these against-the-light-shots, that’s why the sky it white instead of coloured. I should have taken my gradient filters with me for better exposure.

    Dear Olaf, auf deutsch sind meine Fragen schnell gestellt, aber ich mache es auf englisch!
    On the picture on the left are flowers, what kind? And on the right are stones or rocks in yellow. Is that mossgrown? Tolle snapshots.

    Dear Ma HB. Great that you wrote your comment in english again. Next time when you’ll visit me you’ll speak fluently.

    I’m not sure about the plants on the first photo, it could be some kind of berry but I don’t think it’s blueberries.
    On the other picture it’s not stones or rocks but a big patch of moss that dried out under summer and therfore got many fissures (Risse).

    Alpen-Bärentraube ? Ich meine unter den Blättern ein paar schwarze Früchte zu erahnen. Dann ist es die Alpen-Bärentraube, Arctostaphylos alpinus, sv: Ripbär, no: Rypebaer. Merkmale im Herbst: besonders leuchtende rote Blätter und schwarze Beeren, die leider nicht schmecken.
    Ergebnisse nach Reschersche in norwegischen und deutschen Pflanzenbestimmungsbüchern und ein klein bisschen eigener Erfahrung.

    Ich war heute noch einmal an der gleichen Stelle, Martin. Die war gar nicht so einfach zu finden. Ich bin mir ein bisschen unsicher, was Deine Bestimmung der Alpen-Bärentraube angeht, da die Blätter der fotografierten Pflanze glatt sind. Früchte habe ich keine gefunden, nur noch die Ansätze, an denen wohl Früchte gewesen sind. Bei Narvik habe ich wohl einige Male die Alpen-Bärentraube fotografiert, ohne allerdings den Namen zu kennen.

    Unsicher bin ich mir allerdings auch. Aber da es Blaubeere nicht ist, bleibt eigentlich nur noch die Rauschebeere (Vaccinium uliginosum) sv:Odon, no: Bokkebaer. Die kenne ich oft vergesellschaftet mit Blaubeere im Wald. Manchmal auch mit schönen roten Blättern. Aber wenn ich unterwegs bin habe ich meist nicht sonderlich viel Ehrgeiz, die Pflanzen zu bestimmen. Man erkennt immer sofort (in der Natur, nicht unbedingt auf dem Foto), ob es Blaubeere ist oder nicht. Wenn nicht – Hauptsache schön!
